Impressive response to MATTA Fair contest

THE Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair Buyers’ Contest has attracted 5,684 participants to try their luck at winning attractive prizes.
MATTA chief executive officer Phua Tai Neng said that of the figure, 3,290 contestants qualified for the contest.
The selection of the contestants were based on them answering three questions correctly, he explained.
“We have received 200,945 entries for the Buyers Contest which was done online. Participants were allowed to submit multiple entries,” he said. Sales from the MATTA Fair Buyers’ Contest participants amounted to RM54.3mil, involving 85 destination countries.
An online random selection to shortlist the winners of the contest was done using a computerised system in the presence of the media.
“The selection was of winners was shortlisted randomly and no favouritism was shown,” he said, adding that 3KAL Soluzions Sdn Bhd’s infrastructure architect V.Mani Arrasu was assigned to manage the computerised system for the contest.
Phua said 138 prizes will be given away to lucky winners for the domestic category of the MATTA Fair Buyers’ Contest.
“We have travel vouchers worth RM5,000, RM3,000 and RM1,000 for the domestic category winners, courtesy of MATTA,” he said.
Winners who won consolation prizes can collect them at MATTA's office upon notification from his staff.
“For the international category, 32 prizes will be given away to lucky winners,” he said.
The grand prize winner will receive a return business class air ticket to London.
“There are also other air tickets to international destinations such as Sydney, Melbourne, Chennai, Osaka, Beijing and cruise packages for the winners,” he said.
The top 15 winners will be invited for the MATTA Fair Buyers’ Contest prize-giving ceremony at Putra World Trade Centre on Sept 20 at 4pm.
“They can also send their representative for the event,” he said.
In addition, Phua said a summary report of the MATTA Fair Buyers’ Contest have revealed that there was a trend of travellers choosing exotic destinations for their holidays.
“They opted for new exotic destinations such as Antarctica, Iceland, Finland, Russia, Peru and Brazil,” he said.
The summary report further showed that there were 1,890 Malaysian participants who visited the MATTA booths during the three-day fair and had spent RM2.99mil for their holidays, involving 14,261 domestic travellers.
“Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan were popular local destinations due to the theme parks and other recreational places there,” he said.
The top international destinations chosen by the contestants were Japan, China, South Korea and Turkey, he added.
There were more than RM100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs under the domestic and international categories, including hotel and attraction vouchers, for the winners of the contest.
The estimated the total sales recorded for three days during the MATTA Fair was RM210mil, the said.
