MATTA expecting RM20mil from Fair

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) is expecting to achieve some RM20mil in sales at the coming Penang MATTA Fair from March 30 to April 1.

Its immediate past president Datuk Hamzah Rahmat said they were targeting 20,000 visitors throughout the three-day fair which will have 134 booths at the Straits Quay Convention Centre.

“In 2016 and 2017, we had a sales turnover of RM15mil and RM17mil respectively from the fair.

“We are optimistic about the fair following the success of the recent MATTA Fair at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur which recorded over RM210mil in sales and 105,000 visitors.

“This was despite claims about the sluggish economy,” he told a recent press conference on SuperStar Libra cruise ship at Swettenham Pier, Penang.

Hamzah said visitors could also win the grand prize of a 4D/3N Costa Fortuna cruise trip worth RM5,000 at the Buyer’s contest with a minimum purchase of RM200.

He added that Penang has a lot of potential as a cruise port in Malaysia as passengers could easily access the heart of George Town upon disembarking.

“Another of our highlights is from Hwajing Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd which is offering a complimentary Royal Hi-Tea for SuperStar Libra passengers who make their booking through them at the fair.

“From packages priced as low as RM618, visitors are entitled to try out the Royal Hi-Tea which is just like the British High Society aboard the ship,” he said.

Hwajing managing director Kenny Cheong said it would be an all-new experience for passengers on board the contemporary cruise.

The fair is open from 10am to 9pm daily. Admission is free.
