THE Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) has named Indonesia as Asean’s favourite destination for the Matta Fair 2016, for both March and September sessions.
President Hamzah Rahmat said the Indonesian Tourism Ministry is occupying a total of 36 booths at Hall 3 Putra World Trade Centre and will be promoting the country as a favourite tourist destination.
Hamzah said Indonesia is well known for its breathtaking tourist attractions, its diverse geology and natural landscape.
“Not only that, Indonesia is also popular with its cultural attractions that encompass the people’s ways of life, heritage, rituals, dances, food, beaches and many more exciting attractions,” Hamzah told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He said the partnership between Matta and Tourism Ministry Indonesia will further maintain and develop a closer relationship between both countries.
“Matta is looking forward to a positive bilateral partnership with Indonesia and we believe that the tie can contribute to Malaysia’s tourism industry,” he said.
Indonesian Tourism Ministry’s assistant deputy director Firnandi Gufron said that two million tourists are expected to visit Indonesia as a direct result of the Matta Fair.
“Last year, we saw a 5% drop in tourists arrival from Malaysia compared to 2014, due to various reasons such as haze, economic headwinds, and so on,” he said.
This year, the ministry is committed to attract more Malaysian tourists. Firnandi said Malaysia has always been on Indonesia’s top five tourists list by country of origin.
“We are offering various cheap and affordable travel packages during the Matta Fair and for every package signed, we are giving away special souvenirs,” he said.
